Reed Group Launches New MDGuidelines Web Site with 6th Edition of Medical Disability Advisor WESTMINSTER, Colorado (May 20, 2009) -- Reed Group Ltd., the world’s most trusted provider of return-to-work information and employee absence services and solutions, announced that the new sixth edition of its popular Medical Disability Advisor is now available on a new Internet site called MDGuidelines. (www.mdguidelines.com) The new MDGuidelines site offers updated evidence-based disability durations, rehabilitation guidelines and frequency tables in an easy-to-search format. The sixth edition guidelines are based on more than one million new cases and are thoroughly physician reviewed. MDGuidelines also offers an exciting new Predictive Disability Durations tool, which allows users to enter multiple criteria for an employee on leave (e.g., age, gender, job class and additional medical conditions) and receive a more accurate prediction of when the employee may be able to return to full productivity. “Our Predictive Disability Durations tool will revolutionize disability case management,” says Jon Seymour, MD, president, Guidelines, for Reed Group. “By modeling factors that affect patient recovery times, we can give our users a much more accurate feel for when employees are likely to return to full productivity. There’s nothing else like it available today.” Dr. Seymour says that the MDGuidelines portal is a must-have resource for a variety of users, including physicians, employers, insurers, third-party administrators, attorneys and even patients themselves. “If employees have an illness or disability that will affect their work, they can use MDGuidelines to research expected absence durations and treatments, and then bring that information to their physician and/or employer.” MDGuidelines also is available to software providers and content aggregators in an easy-to-integrate XML-based Web services format. With Web services, customers are able to seamlessly integrate disability durations, predictive recommendations, and referential content into the workflow of their end users, while ensuring that the data seen by those users is the most recently updated version. The Medical Disability Advisor is the industry’s universally-accepted tool for managing employee medical absence. It establishes common standards and a framework for nonadversarial communication among employees, employers, health professionals and insurers. Authored by Presley Reed, MD, in cooperation with leading epidemiologists and medical panels, it enables consistent and fair standards for medically appropriate leave of absence from work. “What makes the Medical Disability Advisor and MDGuidelines unique in the industry is the extensive and thorough physician review process, and the data’s unique source of actual durations from cases with physician-coded ICD-9 diagnoses,” says James Talmage, MD, chair of the Reed Group Medical Advisory Board. “Users of MDGuidelines data can trust that they are getting the highest quality and most reliable return-to-work data available on the market today.” The new sixth edition of the Medical Disability Advisor also is available as data for integration. MDGuidelines currently is used by more than 22,000 professionals in 38 countries. Dr. Seymour expects those numbers to grow rapidly and substantially as new users worldwide discover MDGuidelines’ powerful tools, easy interface, and high-quality information. “MDGuidelines offers essential knowledge at the intersection of health and productivity,” Dr. Seymour says. “We intend to make this new portal the world’s most comprehensive source of information for optimizing return-to-work outcomes and for getting employees back to full health and productivity as quickly as possible.” / / / About Reed Group |
